Here's my idea for my second story.
Plot- The plot circles around a struggling America Suburb family. After coming home after a normal business trip James learns that his father had just died of heart attack. Already feeling apart from his own family due his intense work hours, James decides that he is going to drive his family to the funeral to try and save his marriage and connection with his kids. However, his wife is having secret affairs and his teenage daughter is pregnant without his father knowing. Meanwhile his son had just gotten into West Point despite his father disapproval of his son joining the military.
On the journey to his father funeral we take a look at other families flashback to see how they got to where they are today and how they use their dark secrets of the past to rebuild their loving relationships.

I think this is a good story idea. It is a relatively simple premise - family going to a funeral - but with the personal aspects of the whole group, you can really delve in to the characters. Both what has happened, and also if you choose to have some of those issues become known during the ride, how the people react to the situations.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of ways you can go with this, and I think it works out really well as a short story idea.
This can go so many ways. It seems like a lot for James, or anyone, to grasp.
